The Despotate of Epirus

As a result of the fourth Crusade, followed by the ''Partitio Terrarum Imperii Romaniae'', 1204 and 1205 saw the emergence of what will soon be known as the Byzantine successor states, such as Nicaea, Trebizond, or in this case, the Despotate of Epirus (known in modern Greek as Δεσποτάτο της Ηπείρου). Their landmass consisted in Epirus and Albania. The Despotate also, although for a short period of time, occupied Central Macedonia, Thrace and almost captured Constantinople around 1224.

The Despotate of Epirus eventually collapsed in 1479 to the Ottoman invasions when the last remaining Venetian troops evacuated the Greek mainland.
